Uncertainty of chromatic dispersion estimation from signal waveforms in intensity modulation optical fiber communication line.

The paper studies uncertainty of Chromatic Dispersion estimation that is performed jointly with estimation of First Order Polarization Mode Dispersion through processing waveforms of a communications signal received by an optical receiver in an Intensity Modulation fiber optic communication line. The uncertainty is assessed from the perspective of an optical performance monitoring system designer. The uncertainty is quantified for a range of Chromatic Dispersion and Polarization Mode Dispersion values which have practical meaning in optical fiber communications.
