Preprocessing of CT images of the spine in the diagnosis of osteoporosis

The article presents methods of preprocessing of CT images of the spine in terms of improving the quality of the images of areas, where osteoporosis can occur. The main area exposed to this disease is the cancellous bone of thoracic spine. The specific character of the analyzed structure, which is a variety of thin fibrous bone tissue poses a problem in precisely identifying it at the borderline with compact bone. The use of appropriate methods and algorithms to analyze the selected group of pixels provides a thorough analysis of the image. This allows to make a detailed measurement of the object of interest, such as texture analysis, when you select appropriate objects and their contours. It is important to reduce the noise that may interfere with the image being analyzed.
